It turns out the UFC will be heading to Brazil in March after all, though it won’t be in a stadium in Curitiba.
UFC SVP in Brazil Giovani Decker announced after Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 77 event that they’ll be returning on March 5 for UFC 197, but the card will take place from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
No fights are set for the pay-per-view event, and it’s not yet clear whether the planned UFC Heavyweight Title bout between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez will be shifted to Las Vegas or headline this card.
This pay-per-view comes just seven months after the UFC’s last pay-per-view event in the venue, as August’s UFC 190 card emanated from the HSBC Arena as well.
