HYDEN BLOG: Jake Paul Signs With PFL And Other MMA News By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch Senior Columnist

There were no events this past weekend so I’ll touch upon some news
stories. Not a lot here but it’s been a slow week in terms of actual
MMA sports news but that should pick up starting next week. Thanks for
reading.

In tragic news, One Championship star Victoria Lee passed away at the
incredibly young age of 18 years old. She was a young prodigy in the
world of MMA, already 3-0 and had another fight scheduled for next
week. More importantly, she seemed like an amazing person who’s gone
far too soon. My condolences to her family.

It’s been a decade since Jon Jones first started talking about moving
up to heavyweight. I knew it had been a while but I saw ESPN’s post
about it on social media and my only thought is that’s nuts. Jones had
said it would maybe happen at the end of 2013. In a way, that might be
the most relatable thing Jones has ever done.

Khabib Nurmagomedov appears to be done coaching in MMA. He posted a
message on Instagram with his team thanking them for the success of
2022 and that he hopes his decision is for the best. He is only 34
years old so it’s possible he returns to coaching sometime but we’ll
have to wait to see.

Jake Paul has signed a multi-year contract with the Professional
Fighters League. He’ll compete in their newly created “Super”
division, which basically just means people who won’t compete in the
seasons and all that. Fighters on those cards will earn at least 50%
of the revenue. Paul and his business partner Nakisa Bidarian, former
CFO of UFC, now own equity in the organization as well. Paul’s already
thrown out a challenge to Nate Diaz for one boxing match then a MMA
fight. Anthony Pettis has already thrown his name out there as a
replacement if Diaz doesn’t want to do it.
To boil it down to its base essence, Paul is doing the Conor McGregor
thing he’s been doing in boxing, just now in MMA. And just like with
McGregor, guys are going to start throwing out challenges to Paul in
hopes of getting that big pay day.
It’s unclear how serious Paul is about fighting MMA or if he just
wants to box in a MMA cage. Most likely it’s that but we’ll see.
Either way, I’m not going to hate on him. The best thing anybody could
do if they don’t like this is to not watch any of his fights. Vote
with your wallet.

My new fantasy book is now out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: A Fight For
Survival
. It’s the third book in my epic fantasy Kingdom of Zarias
series and follows the adventures of the Summers siblings as they
fight to defend the world from an evil villain named Galren. This book
also introduces lots of other characters as the scope of the world
grows. There’s lots of action, magic, and monsters in the Kingdom of
Zarias. It’s like a tabletop game in novel form. It’s on Amazon,
Barnes & Noble, and many other places. If you’re interested, I would
greatly appreciate it if you would check it out and support me. Also,
here’s the link to my new Compendium book about the Kingdom of Zarias
series- KoZ Compendium
Thank you very much, have a good day.
