The next move for Conor McGregor and the UFC may be determined by next week, as UFC President Dana White said on Wednesday that the organization plans to sit down in person with the Featherweight Champion by then.

“Conor and I have been talking every day,” White said in an interview on The Dan Patrick Show (transcribed by MMAFighting.com). “We’re gonna have dinner next week. Our relationship is great. We’re gonna put the little speed bump in the road behind us and move forward. Everything is great.

“McGregor is ready to fight on [UFC] 200. The thing that has made Conor McGregor a massive star and why people love him is this kid loves to fight. He’ll fight anybody, anywhere, any time. He goes in and goes for broke. His fights are exciting and fun, leading up to them, during them and after them. McGregor is ready to fight.”

As to when and against whom that next fight would come, Patrick offered up UFC 202 and the rematch with Nate Diaz, which White said sounded like a good idea.

Penick’s Analysis: Booking the Diaz rematch at UFC 202 in August, as previously reported, is the most sensible thing for them to do now that they’ve moved on from booking him at UFC 200. It makes no sense to have him wait for the winner of the Interim Title fight at UFC 200 to be ready when he’s healthy and ready to go, and now with that fight being booked the Diaz rematch makes more sense than it did initially. Get the rematch out of the way, make your money on that fight as well as on UFC 200, and move on to the Featherweight Title unification bout in New York at Madison Square Garden.
