After his unanimous decision win over Rony Jason in the co-main event slot of UFC Fight Night 92 in Salt Lake City, Utah last night, Dennis Bermudez took to the mic with a short but clear message: “Frankie Edgar, November 14, Madison Square Garden. Let’s go”

When asked about his comments in a post-fight scrum, Bermudez explained the call out. “The reason why I am here in the UFC is to be a champion. It’s not to make money, it’s not to be famous, it’s to be the champion. A win over Frankie Edgar puts me right where I want to be for a title shot.”

It would make sense that the UFC might be looking to put New Jersey native Edgar on the card.

Wielenga’s Analysis: A match against Edgar of course would be a great opportunity for Bermudez. However, the fight does not make too much sense for Edgar. He wants to get back to a title shot as quickly as possible and has talked about potentially going down to 135 to get it. I think 135 is the fastest way for him to get another shot and see that happening in his near future. As far as where Bermudez can realistically go from here, I would give him fellow Saturday night winner Cub Swanson with the winner being right back in contention for a title shot.

McMinn’s Analysis: Other than the facts that the MSG show is a couple days earlier than Bermudez is planning (oops), and that Edgar might be moving down a weight class (Story: Edgar May Drop Weight Class ) this fight makes some sense. A win for Bermudez would give him victories over Holloway and Edgar, which is something no other fighter has accomplished. A win for Edgar – and make no mistake, this would be seen as a very “winnable” fight for the New Jersey native – would keep him just outside top contender status at both bantamweight and featherweight.
