Khabib Nurmagomedov says he’s waiting on phone call from UFC to tell him he’s getting title shot

Khabib Nurmagomedov believes the next UFC Lightweight Title shot is his, and said on Tuesday he’s now simply waiting to hear from the UFC.

As soon as rumors about my title fight comes out, my loyal friend rushed to help me with preparation. But seriously guys, I’m just waiting for phone call with news, that I’m fighting for title. I really want to bring this title to Russia and prove that we deserve it. Nurmagomedov, 27, is now 23-0 in his career after returning to action in April after a two-year injury layoff. He holds a victory over the man from whom Eddie Alvarez took the title in July, Rafael dos Anjos.

Penick’s Analysis: With the UFC going ahead with Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson, the Alvarez-Nurmagomedov fight makes tons of sense for the next title bout. Nurmagomedov is undefeated, Alvarez looked fantastic in his title win, and it’s a new matchup for both of them. Get Nurmagomedov’s shot out of the way, and then he’s either champion or Alvarez dispatches of a dangerous and worthy challenger.
