Khabib Nurmagomedov believes the next UFC Lightweight Title shot is his, and said on Tuesday he’s now simply waiting to hear from the UFC.
Nurmagomedov, 27, is now 23-0 in his career after returning to action in April after a two-year injury layoff. He holds a victory over the man from whom Eddie Alvarez took the title in July, Rafael dos Anjos.
Penick’s Analysis: With the UFC going ahead with Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson, the Alvarez-Nurmagomedov fight makes tons of sense for the next title bout. Nurmagomedov is undefeated, Alvarez looked fantastic in his title win, and it’s a new matchup for both of them. Get Nurmagomedov’s shot out of the way, and then he’s either champion or Alvarez dispatches of a dangerous and worthy challenger.
