Adding to today’s earlier report from Globo in Brazil, TMZ Sports is now reporting that Anderson Silva vs. Daniel Cormier is “confirmed” for Saturday’s UFC 200 event.
Per the report, the fight will be a three-round, non-title fight at light heavyweight.
The bout opened up on Wednesday when Jon Jones was pulled from the event due to a failed out-of-competition drug test, and with Cormier wanting to remain on the card the UFC spent Thursday seeking a new opponent. Though the organization has not yet made an official announcement, it appears they were the source behind TMZ’s report.

Penick’s Analysis: Just craziness that this is happening on two days notice. Who knows where Cormier’s mind is at with everything that happened this week. How healthy is Silva after gallbladder surgery took him out of UFC 198 in May? He’s taking this fight on a couple days notice, he just got into Vegas today (he’s inducting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira into the UFC Hall of Fame Sunday), and the UFC now adds another massive name to the UFC 200 card in some type of salvaging move. If the UFC comes out with a contradicting report from here, any other opponent might come off as a disappointment given the attention this bout has gotten today.
UPDATE: Dana White confirmed the bout just now on Twitter.
