Rafael dos Anjos on UFC 202’s McGregor-Diaz rematch: “I don’t see Conor winning this fight”

Conor McGregor’s first fight with Nate Diaz came about due to an injury to UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos, and now that the rematch is coming in August at UFC 202, dos Anjos is chiming in on the bout itself.

In a short video interview with TMZ dos Anjos was asked what advice he’d give the UFC Featherweight Champion, and in perhaps predictable fashion he doesn’t think his verbal rival will fare well on August 20.

“It’s hard to advise him, because Nate Diaz was on vacation when he got a call to fight him. And on less than 10 days’ notice he still beat him – now he’s got a full fight camp,” dos Anjos said (transcribed by FoxSports.com). “It’s hard to give him any advice.

“[Conor can win] if he can catch him with the right shot, but Nate can take a lot of shots, especially at 170 pounds. Nate Diaz is a 55er, he’s a lightweight. But now he’s fighting at 170 – I don’t know why. But I don’t see Conor winning this fight, for sure.”

Penick’s Analysis: Dos Anjos took the fight with McGregor in the first place expecting to make his own statement, and though Diaz took that spot from him the point was essentially made. It’s possible the fight still comes together sometime in the future, especially if McGregor beats Diaz at UFC 202, but for now dos Anjos seems fine taking shots from the sidelines.
