UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman is the latest to officially sign with Reebok, and he’s got a pair of gaudy signature shoes to go along with it.
“It’s just an honor to be part of an apparel brand like Reebok,” Weidman said during an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “I never even imagined having my own shoe. There’s no words to explain, it’s amazing. Ridiculous. I’m never taking these things off. I’ll be everywhere with these.”
Weidman’s new endorsement deal adds his name alongside Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, Anthony Pettis, and others who have inked separate deals with the apparel brand outside of the sponsorship deal with the organization as a whole. The 31-year-old Champion has his next title defense on Dec. 12 at UFC 194, where he puts the title on the line against Luke Rockhold.
Penick’s Analysis: If that’s your style of shoe, I suppose you might be excited for that look. At $128 a pair, it’s up in line with high end athletic shoes, but despite the price tag it’s probably going to be an easier sell than Weidman’s “UFC Fight Kit,” so good for him on that end. More and more fighters should be getting separate deals with Reebok as this deal continues on, and it’s great for another Champion to feel like they’re being taken care of here.
