The UFC’s April event schedule continues to get filled up with fights this month, with the latest additions coming at UFC on Fox 19. The UFC announced this week that Cezar Ferreira will take on Caio Magalhaes on the April 16 card, while Drew Dober meets Islam Makhachev.
“Mutante” Ferreira is in need of a victory after two brutal KO losses in a row, and in three of his last four. The “Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” winner started off well in his UFC run with three straight wins, but since that stretch he’s suffered KO losses at the hands of C.B. Dollaway, Sam Alvey, and Jorge Masvidal, scoring only a decision win over Andrew Craig in that stretch.
He’ll need to find some way to avoid that against the hard-hitting Magalhaes, who returns after a brief suspension for spitting blood at opponent Josh Samman after his loss at the TUF 21 Finale last July. That defeat was just the second in his career, and first since his UFC debut, snapping a four fight winning streak that included three finishes.
Dober, 27, kept his UFC run going in his last outing, getting into the win column for just the second time in six fights. That win came against Scott Holtzman at UFC 195 last month, and he’ll try to ride that momentum into this matchup.
Makhachev, a teammate of UFC on Fox 19 headliner Khabib Nurmagomedov, made a major impression in his UFC debut when he submitted Leo Kuntz to move to a perfect 12-0. However, he was brought right back down in his next outing, as he suffered a first round knockout at the hands of Adriano Martins in October for his first career defeat.
UFC on Fox 19 takes place from Tampa, Fla., and will be headlined by Nurmagomedov’s five round No. 1 contender fight against Tony Ferguson.
