HYDEN BLOG: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from UFC Fight Night:
Moreno vs. Kavanagh

By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch Senior Columnist

UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs Kavanagh was this past weekend and it
featured some exciting fights and finishes. Who won and who lost?
Let’s get to the rundown.

UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Kavanagh
b<>GOOD- Santiago Luna vs. Angel Pacheco
A lot of boxing early before Luna mixes in some kicks and gets a quick
takedown, but they’re right back up. Luna is landing a lot more
strikes but Pacheco is still firing away. Luna gets another takedown
but again, Pacheco is quickly back up and the first round ends. The
second round begins with more of the same. Luna is much more active
and doing good damage. Pacheco is tough, though. The third round
starts with Luna continuing to work the body. They keep trading
strikes until the fight ends. We go to the judges to render their
verdict.
Luna wins the decision to improve to a perfect 8-0 while Pacheco drops
to 7-4 and has lost 3 straight fights. Good win for Luna.

GOOD- Imanol Rodriguez stops Kevin Borjas
Rodriguez comes out firing but then Borjas drops him with a powerful
left hand. Rodriguez is back to his feet but gets dropped again.
Somehow, Rodriguez gets a takedown to get his wits back about him.
Wow. Rodriguez does enough to stay on top until the first round ends.
The second round begins with more trading of strikes until Rodriguez
does the very rare Running Palpatine and rakes Borjas in the eyes.
Nothing is done, of course, as Borjas takes a few seconds to recover.
Why bother having rules? They trade some more before Rodriguez drops
Borjas with a big right hand. Rodriguez wails on him until the referee
jumps in to stop the fight not quite four and a half minutes into the
second round.
Rodriguez improves to a perfect 7-0 while Borjas drops to 10-5. Good
win for Rodriguez.

GOOD- Edgar Chairez vs. Felipe Bunes
They trade strikes for a little bit before Bunes takes Chairez’s back
standing. They fight against the cage for the rest of the first round.
The second round begins with the fighters trading strikes until Bunes
hits Chairez low. After the recovery period, they trade a few more
strikes before the second round ends. The third round starts with
Bunes getting a takedown but Chairez is quickly back to his feet and
they trade strikes for the rest of the fight. We go to the judges to
render their verdict.
Chairez wins the Split Decision to improve to 13-6 with 1 No Contest
while Bunes drops to 14-9. Good win for Chairez.

GOOD- King Green stops Daniel Zellhuber
Green gets a quick takedown but Zellhuber is right back up. Green is
doubling or tripling up Zellhuber’s strikes and gets another takedown.
Again, Zellhuber works his way back up then both men land hard strikes
until the first round ends. The second round begins with Green getting
another takedown. Zellhuber has some good submission work but Green
avoids danger. Green staggers Zellhuber and unloads a mighty barrage
that drops him and then finishes him with just seconds to go in the
second round.
Green improves to 34-17-1 with 1 No Contest while Zellhuber drops to
15-4 and has lost 3 straight fights. Good win for Green.

GOOD- Marlon Vera vs. David Martinez
A lot of kicks are flying early, though they are mixing in some
punches until Martinez gets a takedown and the first round ends. The
second round begins with both fighters moving well so not a lot of the
many strikes being thrown are landing. Martinez gets another takedown
but Vera works his back back up and they trade more strikes until the
second round ends. The third round starts with Vera coming out firing,
as he knows he might need a finish to win. They trade strikes
throughout the third round but we reach the final bell. We go to the
judges to render their verdict.
Martinez wins the decision to improve to 14-1 and has won 10 straight
fights while Vera drops to 23-12-1 and has lost 4 straight fights.
Good win for Martinez.

GOOD- Brandon Moreno vs. Lone’er Kavanagh
They trade strikes all throughout the first round. Kavanagh is working
some good leg kicks to Moreno’s lead leg that are starting to pay off
a bit. They trade more strikes for the rest of the second round, with
Kavanagh continuing to attack with leg kicks. The third round starts
with more of the same, Moreno’s leg seems to be bothering him more
here, though he’s still very dangerous and landing some tough strikes
of his own.
The fourth round opens with Moreno coming out on fire, landing knees
as they fight on the cage. Kavanagh hits Moreno’s lead leg with kicks
more and he can’t hide the pain as they fight against the cage for the
rest of the fourth round. The fifth round commences with Moreno using
more wall-and-stall until Kavanagh fights free. Moreno goes right back
to the clinch work and this continues until the fight ends. We go to
the judges to render their verdict.
Kavanagh wins the decision to improve to 10-1 while Moreno drops to
23-10-2. Good win for Kavanagh.

My new epic fantasy book is out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: The End’s
Beginning. The exciting epic fantasy series Kingdom of Zarias
returns with the 4th book in the series. After the harrowing events of
Book 3 the residents of the Kingdom of Zarias continue on their paths.
Serena Summers continues to learn and grow as a fighter, desperately
seeking to become stronger before she loses anyone else in her life.
Daniel Summers discovers new parts of the world that open his eyes to
just how little he truly knows. A new hero, Lamar Abeers, arrives to
join the fight against evil. Plus, Zach Summers, Tiana Highsmith, and
Xavien Ekens continue their journeys with their friends, and a new
ruler of Vhaharen is crowned. The world has found a little peace.
However, that peace is only temporary. In a shocking act of violence,
the monstrous villain Galren strikes from the shadows and changes the
world forever. This is Book 4 in the series. There’s lots of action,
magic, and monsters in the Kingdom of Zarias. It’s like a tabletop
game in novel form. It’s on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and many other
places. Also, my line of comic books are now available under the 3P
Comics label. If you’re interested, I would greatly appreciate it if
you would check it out and support me. Thank you very much, have a
good day.
