PFL 10 (2025) and UFC Fight Night: Walker vs. Zhang were this
past weekend and featured some exciting fights and finishes. Who won
and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
PFL 10 (2025)
GOOD – Antonio Carlos Junior submits Sullivan Cauley
Carlos Junior drops Cauley early in the first round but he’s back up and Cauley then drops Carlos Junior, who hits Cauley back with a big upkick. These guys are tearing into each other. Hard to imagine
this fight goes the distance. The second round begins with more of the
same crazy action, with both men showing each other and showing the
effects of the damage they’ve taken. Carlos Junior lands a big head
kick that forces a clinch before the fight goes to the ground. Carlos
Junior maneuvers around and locks in a rear-naked choke that forces
the tap not quite four minutes into the second round.
Carlos Junior improves to 19-6 with 2 No Contests and has won 3
straight fights while Cauley drops to 8-2 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Carlos Junior.
Carlos Junior is your new PFL 2025 World Light Heavyweight
Tournament Champion. Congrats to him.
GOOD – Oleg Popov vs. Alexander Romanov
Both men are mixing their striking up in the first round. Popov seemed a little crisper. The second round begins and ends with more of the same. Popov is using his low kicks well. The third round starts
with more striking exchanges, this time with Romanov seeming to have
the edge.
The fourth round opens with Romanov continuing his momentum and
doing some good damage to Popov. The fifth round commences with more
of the same striking exchanges and both fighters trying to get the
edge. It’s a very close round and the fight ends so we go to the
judges to render their verdict.
Popov wins the Split Decision to improve to 22-2 and has won 3
straight fights while Romanov drops to 19-4 with 1 No Contest. Great win for Popov.
Popov is your new PFL 2025 World Heavyweight Tournament Champion. Congrats to him.
GOOD – Fabian Edwards stops Dalton Rosta
The action is fast and furious in the first round, as strikes
are coming from all angles until Rosta gets a quick takedown. Edwards
is right back up, though. The second round begins with more wild
striking exchanges, these guys seem to be on fast-forward. Rosta is
fighting well but Edwards remains dangerous. The third round starts
with Edwards forcing a clinch before leveling Rosta with a huge kick
that ends the fight a minute and a half into the third round. Wow.
Edwards improves to 16-4 and has won 3 straight fights while
Rosta drops to 11-2 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. Good
win for Edwards.
Edwards is your new PFL 2025 World Middleweight Tournament
Champion. Congrats to him.
UFC Fight Night: Walker vs. Zhang
GOOD – Taiyilake Nueraji stops Kiefer Crosbie
They trade strikes and go to the ground, where Nueraji blasts
Crosbie with an illegal knee. Crosbie says he can continue and is
ruled eligible by the cageside doctor, and Nueraji is docked two
points for the blatant foul. Nueraji immediately throws Crosbie down
and starts hammering him with elbows until the referee is forced to
jump in to stop the fight three and a half minutes into the first round.
Nueraji improves to 12-1 with 1 No Contest and has won 6
straight fights while Crosbie drops to 10-6 and has lost 3 straight
fights. Good win for Nueraji.
BAD – Su Mudaerji vs. Kevin Borjas
Sumudaerji starts off with kicks before mixing in some punches
while sticking his fingers straight out at his opponent. -sigh-.
Borjas seems tentative so far. The second round begins with more of
the same, including Sumudaerji sticking his fingers straight out. This
time he gets a hard warning from the referee. Oh, look out. This is
another bleh round. The third round is more of the same so we go to
the judges to render their verdict on this slow-paced fight. This
wasn’t a terrible fight, it was just kind of there.
Sumudaerji wins the decision to improve to 18-7 while Borjas
drops to 10-4. Nice win for Sumudaerji.
GOOD – Sergei Pavlovich vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta
They trade huge bombs in the first round. Pavlovich’s power is
high but Cortes-Acosta is showing good toughness. The second round
begins with Pavlovich continuing to land punches while Cortes-Acosta
fires back with some good kicks. The third round starts with more calm
punching from Pavlovich. Cortes-Acosta is too tough to finish so this
fight ends and we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Pavlovich wins the decision to improve to 20-3 while Cortes-Acosta drops to 14-2 and has his 5 fight winning streak
snapped. Good win for Pavlovich.
BAD/GOOD – Aljamain Sterling vs. Brian Ortega
Ortega came in well over the featherweight weight limit so this
was a 153 lb. catchweight fight. Sterling was more active early, with
Ortega barely doing anything. The second round begins with Sterling
using his jab and hitting Ortega with calf kicks. The third round
starts with more tentative action.
Why this fight is even scheduled for five rounds is beyond me.
I’m not sure how many were asking for this. Anyway, the fourth round
opens with more of the same, Sterling connecting with more strikes
while Ortega tries to come forward some. The fifth round commences
with some slight differences, not for the better. Sterling is backing
away while Ortega gives some chase. Thankfully, this fight is over so
we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Sterling wins the decision to improve to 25-5 while Ortega
drops to 16-5 with 1 No Contest. Nice win for Sterling.
GOOD – Johnny Walker stops Zhang Mingyang
The fight goes to the mat early, after Walker tries to shoot in
for a takedown off of a glove touch. Zhang lets him up and they trade
strikes until the first round ends. The second round begins with some
strong punches by Zhang that stagger Walker. However, Walker fires
back with some hard leg kicks that hurt Zhang and drop him. Walker
pounces and rains punches and elbows down on Zhang until the referee
is forced to jump in to stop the fight halfway through the second
round.
Walker improves to 22-9 with 1 No Contest while Zhang drops to
19-7 and has his 12 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Walker.
