Lightweights Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje will fight in September.
It appears that Vancouver, is getting a firecracker of a fight in September. UFC president Dana White told Yahoo that the UFC is finalizing a lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje, for the Sept. 14 card in Vancouver, British Columbia.
White told Yahoo, “Get ready, Vancouver…This fight is going to be ridiculous!”
White’s enthusiasm may be justified. Both fighters showcase an active striking style, with a glut of performance bonuses between the two men.
Before White spoke to Yahoo, Cerrone teased the bout on social media.
“Just got off the phone with my ole Buddy. And at 155 it’s kinda are only option. He told me Cowboy let’s go make this money. And if I can Promise y’all something this is a fight y’all Do Not Want to miss. O and of course it’s on short notice.” wrote Cerrone.

Shortly after the post, speculation grew regarding his next fight.
In his last fight, against Tony Ferguson at UFC 238, Cerrone was on the unfortunate end of doctors stoppage, when his eye puffed up just before the start of the third round. This was caused by Cerrone blowing his nose right before the round was set to start.
Prior to UFC 239, Cerrone was riding a three-fight winning streak, and was considered a future opponent for Conor McGregor. Despite never holding a title, Cerrone holds several UFC records, including the most wins, and the most finishes in UFC history.
Cerrone’s anticipated opponent has fewer official accolades, but his reputation carries similar lore.
Since coming to the UFC in 2017, Gaethje has amassed a 3-2 record, with all fight fights earning. “Fight of the Night” honors. Beyond his UFC career, Gaethje last went to the scorecards in 2014.
Gaethje is known for his linear style, willing to absorb punishment in order to inflict offense.
The September event will air on ESPN+, and take place from the Rogers Arena, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
