Who will win Saturday’s main event between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw?

I firmly believe that TJ Dillashaw is the better fighter, but I cannot fathom him fighting well as a flyweight. On the other hand, this new Henry Cejudo is a completely different fighter. I doubt we see a finish here, but this should be an entertaining way to open up the ESPN era.

I think Dillashaw breaks Cejudo down over the course of the fight and picks up the TKO stoppage late in the 4th round, possibly in the 5th round. Cejudo is obviously a great fighter but I don’t think his cardio will hold up and I think the cumulative amount of punches from Dillashaw will directly lead to the finish. I think Cejudo will only be able to take so much punishment before his body gives out.

TJ Dillashaw will pick Henry Cejudo apart, TJ is too big and Cejudo’s wrestling won’t matter with TJ’s style. Cejudo does have crazy power though so TJ better look out because he Garbrandt almost KOed him so TJ is susceptible to power punchers.

undervalued his whole career. TJ Dillashaw takes chances and the weight cut is concerning. In short, I like Cejudo.

There are two opposing factors here that I tend to lean on when picking fights. The first one is that I generally favor the bigger fighter. In this case, that’s Dillashaw. Cejudo is a big flyweight, but Dillashaw is making what seems like an impossibly difficult cut. If he’s successful and feels good on fight night, he may be a force to be reckoned with. As I’m writing this both Dillashaw and Cejudo have made weight so that works in Dillashaw’s favor.
The other factor I often take into consideration is that I will always favor a wrestler over a striker. Dillashaw is an accomplished amateur and very good MMA wrestler, but Cejudo’s gold medal trumps everything. So with that in mind, I favor Cejudo. His striking has improved vastly over his short MMA career, but if Cejudo turns this into a kickboxing match it’s going to be a short night for him. Ask Cody Garbrandt.

With everything taken into account, I have to go with Dillashaw here. He’s motivated and seemed to handle the weight cut in a way that won’t hinder his performance. If the two men’s wrestling cancels each other out, I think Dillashaw will knock Henry Cejudo out pretty quick. I’m calling for a first round KO for TJ.
