In what was almost an identical finish to their 2013 bout, Vitor Belfort stopped Dan Henderson on Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 77 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The opening two minutes featured painfully little action, with neither wanting to engage first. Then came the rush from Belfort, as he cracked Henderson with a head kick that was partially blocked before sending him to the ground and finishing it with strikes.
Henderson initially protested the stoppage, but on replay it appeared he briefly went limp from a strike, at which point referee Mario Yamasaki moved to stop the bout.
For the 45-year-old Henderson, it’s his fourth stoppage loss in his last six fights, and has to bring into question whether or not he’ll fight again. For Belfort, he gains some new life with his first win since beating Henderson in 2013, as he spent a year and a half out of the cage after that fight before getting beat by Chris Weidman in May of this year.
