By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch Senior Columnist

UFC Fight Night: Song vs. Simon was this past weekend and it featured
some exciting fights. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
Also, I’ll quickly go over some results from the Bare Knuckle Fighting
Championship 41 event.

UFC Fight Night: Song vs. Simon
GOOD- Josh Quinlan vs. Trey Waters
They fight against the fence for a while before separating. Waters is
keeping the fight at a distance. They trade kicks before Quinlan gets
a takedown as the first round ends. The second round begins with a few
striking exchanges but nothing major. This was a slower round. The
third round starts with Waters continuing to pump his jab over and
over. Quinlan is getting pummeled by the jab and he can’t stop it.
Waters gets a takedown at the end of the third round and we go to the
judges. Waters wins the decision and improves to 8-1 while Quinlan
drops to 6-1 with 1 No Contest. Good win for Waters.

GOOD- Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima
We start with some kicks by de Lima. Cortes-Acosta is hurt, as de Lima
keeps firing kicks out. de Lima gets a takedown but Cortes-Acosta gets
back to his feet. de Lima goes back to the leg kicks and the first
round ends. The second round starts with some striking exchanges
before de Lima gets a takedown. Cortes-Acosta eventually gets up
shortly before the second round ends. The third round opens with more
striking exchanges, with Cortes-Acosta getting the best of them. de
Lima is gassed but is able to hold on until the third round and fight
ends. We go to the judges and de Lima wins the decision and improves
to 21-8-1 while Cortes-Acosta is handed his first loss and is 9-1.
Good win for de Lima.

GOOD- Fernando Padilla stops Julian Erosa
They’re trading strikes early before Padilla nails Erosa with some
combinations that drops him before putting him out with a huge right
hand to force the referee to jump in to stop the fight a little over a
minute and a half into the first round. Padilla improves to 15-4 and
has won 3 straight fights while Erosa drops to 28-11. Good win for
Padilla.

GOOD- Rodolfo Vieira submits Cody Brundage
Brundage drops Vieira with a big combination about halfway through the
first round, after they fight on the fence for a while and a low blow
restart. They go to the mat for a bit until the first round ends. The
second round starts with Vieira getting a quick takedown and they
exchange submission attempts before Vieira locks in an arm triangle
choke to get the submission win about a minute and a half into the
second round. Vieira improves to 9-2 while Brundage drops to 8-4. Good
win for Vieira.

GOOD- Caio Borralho submits Michal Oleksiejczuk
Borralho is firing out a lot of kicks early but Oleksiejczuk is
nailing him with some nice counters. Borralho finally gets the
takedown he’s been searching for and they fight on the mat until the
first round ends. The second round starts with some good striking
exchanges before Borralho gets a big takedown. Oleksiejczuk stands but
gets taken back down. Borralho hunts for and locks in a rear-naked
choke to get the tap not quite three minutes into the second round.
Borralho improves to 14-1 with 1 No Contest and has won 11 straight
fights. Good win for Borralho.

GOOD- Song Yadong stops Ricky Simon
They trade a lot of kicks, though it’s a slow start as they prepare
for the full 25 minutes. Simon gets stymied on a few takedown attempts
and the first round ends. The second round sees Simon get a takedown
after some striking exchanges. Song gets up quickly and they’re back
to boxing. Song’s fighting loose and confident but Simon does land
another takedown and land some big hammerfists before Song can get
back to his feet as the second round ends. The third round opens with
another takedown by Simon. Song gets back up and goes back to
stalking. Simon isn’t very aggressive and it’s leading to Song piling
up these rounds. The fourth round starts with more of the same, Song
is the aggressor as he’s throwing and landing a lot more strikes. We
move to the fifth round and Simon is getting pummeled. A big left hook
drops him and Song swarms to force the referee to jump in to stop the
fight a little over a minute into the fifth round. Song improves to
20-7-1 with 1 No Contest while Simon drops to 20-4 and has his 5 fight
winning streak snapped. Good win for Song.

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 41 was also this past weekend. I’m
hesitant to include the results here, as it’s not MMA, but I figure it
can be skipped by anyone not wanting to read about it.

Ben Rothwell beat Josh Copeland

Eddie Alvarez beat Chad Mendes by Split Decision (Mendes retired after
the fight)
Mike Perry beat Luke Rockhold

My new fantasy book is now out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: A Fight For
Survival
. It’s the third book in my epic fantasy Kingdom of Zarias
series and follows the adventures of the Summers siblings as they
fight to defend the world from an evil villain named Galren. This book
also introduces lots of other characters as the scope of the world
grows. There’s lots of action, magic, and monsters in the Kingdom of
Zarias. It’s like a tabletop game in novel form. It’s on Amazon,
Barnes & Noble, and many other places. If you’re interested, I would
greatly appreciate it if you would check it out and support me. Also,
here’s the link to my new Compendium book about the Kingdom of Zarias
series- KoZ Compendium
