- Katlyn Chookagian vs Jennifer Maia
This isn’t one to watch because it’ll be exciting, it’s one to watch because perhaps one of these two women will make their way back to a title fight and this is the most important step on that journey. Chookagian has to get a finish, she is the queen of decisions and that won’t get her any more title shots. Maia can at least finish fights by either submission or (T)KO. Maia has also gone the distance with Valentina Shevchenko, something Chookagian couldn’t do. Maia needs to make quick work of Chookagian and turn some heads.
- Calvin Kattar vs Giga Chikadze
Looking to move on from the Holloway loss, Kattar takes on Giga Chikadze, a man that could stop Kattar’s 2022 plans in their tracks. Calvin Kattar is called the Boston Finisher but nearly half of his fights are decisions. That is probably where he needs to start if he wants to turn things around, finish the damn fight! Now Chikadze, that’s a man that can finish, only two losses as well.
Personally, Kattar got a lot of hype going into his last fight and I just didn’t see what even got people talking about him. If he knocks out Giga, maybe I’ll start to come around but until then I’m going to enjoy Chikadze 2022 with a win.
- Brandon Royval vs Rogerio Bontorin
Neither has been impressive recently, with Bontorin winning a decision and Royval dropping two straight. When they win, these guys finish fights, so an impressive finish is what I’m looking forward to and it’s due. They both want to start their climb to the top at the beginning of this new calendar year. The question is, who wants it more?
