UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai was yesterday. Let’s get to the rundown.

UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai
GOOD- Montana De La Rosa stops Ariane Lipski
De Le Rosa did a fair amount of damage in the first round, including cutting Lipski open. The second round opened with De La Rosa getting a takedown and punishing Lipski, cutting her open more. De La Rosa kept pouring on the attacks and the referee had to step in and stop the fight. Good win for De La Rosa.

GOOD- Gregory Rodrigues vs. Dusko Todorovic
Todorovic fought hard but Rodrigues was just the better fighter. Todorovic showed good toughness as he kept coming forward and firing, but Rodrigues did more damage and that’s why he got the decision victory from the judges. Good win for Rodrigues.

GOOD- Miguel Baeza vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio
Baeza came out with a lot of kicks in the first round. He did some nice damage but Ponzinibbio fought through it and upped his volume in the second round. Baeza was still landing some damaging kicks but Ponzinibbio started throwing more and more strikes of his own. It came down to the third round and they both just went for it. Both guys were landing good strikes but Ponzinibbio’s seemed a little more frequent and that won him the round and the fight. There were some thunderous shots landed in this fight, it was pretty damn exciting. Good win for Ponzinibbio.

BAD/GOOD- Roman Dolidze vs. Laureano Staropoli
Dolidze got a takedown in the first round and that was mainly it. The second round was a repeat of that, with Dolidze getting a takedown and not much else. The third round saw a little action before Dolidze got a takedown and they battled more. Dolidze got the decision victory from the judges, as Staropoli just couldn’t stop the takedowns. I respect the strategy of doing what your opponent can’t stop, but this was boring. Good win for Dolidze, though.

GOOD- Marcin Tybura stops Walt Harris
Harris had good success with his striking early, but then Tybura got a takedown. Harris fought out of it but then he went for a kick and got taken down again. Tybura took his back and started raining strikes down on him and the referee had to jump in a little over four minutes into the first round. Good win for Tybura, who’s now won five fights in a row. On the other side, Harris has now lost three fights in a row.

GOOD- Jairzinho Rozenstruik stops Augusto Sakai
Not a whole lot of action here, mainly just a lot of feints. Then, right as the first round was about to end, Rozenstruik rushed in with a big combination. He caught Sakai with a huge right hand and follow-up shots that forced the referee to jump in with one second left in the first round. Good win for Rozenstruik.
Rozenstruik has alternated wins and losses in his last four fights, with those two losses being the only time he’s been defeated in his MMA career. Sakai has lost two fights in a row.
