Is Jared Cannonier a real threat at middleweight?

I’ll say yes but only in the right matchup. Is he a threat to Israel Adesanya? No, not really. However, he is a threat to Robert Whittaker. Cannonier is a threat to anyone who will stand and trade with him. He has the power to end a fight early but if the other guy knows that then they would likely seek to neutralize that threat. I think Cannonier is a threat but he’ll have to mix it up to become a legit threat. to everyone in the division.

Yes, Jared Cannonier is a real threat at middleweight. I was impressed that all of our panelists picked him to win last week when conventional wisdom was leaning towards his opponent. As I said in last week’s roundtable, Cannonier brings down much of the power he had at heavyweight and light heavyweight, which makes him very dangerous and a credible threat at 185.

After UFC 243, the middleweight division will have some more clarity, but the prospect of Cannonier as a contender seems realistic. Of course he would probably have to beat someone ahead of him first, but there is no reason to believe that he cannot put himself in that position. A fight against Yoel Romero feels like a piece of violent destiny, that everyone can get behind.
