EARLY PRELIMS (ESPN+, UFC Fight Pass)

Erik Koch (15-6) vs. Kyle Stewart (11-2) – Welterweight 170 lbs.

Round 1: Right jab from Koch, left head kick from Koch. Right hand by Stewart. Punching combo by Koch leads to a clinch situation at the cage. Koch attempts the takedown, but Stewart resists. Head kick by Stewart, but Koch counters with a series of punches. Koch lands two punching combos. Stewart punches forward to a clinch at the cage. END

Round 2: Two-punch and kick combo by Koch. Stewart counters with strikes that push Koch back the fence. Koch reverses and earns a brief takedown but Stewart stands quickly. Stewart goes for a leg-lock, but Koch lands up in side-control. Koch lands strikes as he gets to his feet, but Stewart also stands. They remain locked at the cage as the round ends.

Round 3: They exchange stiff right jabs. Koch back Stewart to the cage, and Stewart wraps him up in a clinch. Koch lands a takedown from the clinch. They stand and break. Koch duck down from a high kick, Stewart shoots a double-leg, but Koch nearly locks in a choke. As they again clinch at the cage, Koch lands a takedown, into a mount. Koch attempts a choke from the top but Stewart remains active. The fight ends with Koch landing elbows from the the top.

Result: Erik Koch def. Kyle Stewart via unanimous decision  (30-27, 29-28 2x)

Analysis: So much of the fight was in the clinch, and was largely uneventful. With that said, Koch really finished strong.

Gillian Robertson (6-3) vs. Sarah Frota (9-1) – Women’s Flyweight 125 lbs.

Round 1: Frota counters a kick with a right hand. Robertson lands an early takedown. Frota pulls Robertson into her guard. Robertson breaks free, but Frota gets into position for a leg-lock. As they roll, Frota locks in a triangle. Robertson escapes into side-control. and lands an elbow that busts Frota up.

Round 2: Robertson grabs a single-leg takedown. From the top Robertson lands an elbow. Fronta lands punches from the bottom. Robertson answers with punches. Frota lands a choke from the bottom. Robertson escapes into a mount where she lands strikes from the top. Frota covers up from elbows. ITS OVER!

Result: Gillian Robertson def. Sarah Frota via TKO at 4:13 of round 2

Analysis: Very fun fight. Frota’s grappling gave Robertson trouble the entire fight, but eventually Robertson was able to take advantage of the top position.  

Prelims (ESPN)

Alexandre Pantoja (21-3) vs. Deiveson Figueiredo (15-1) – Men’s Flyweight 125 lbs.

Round 1: Leg kick by Pantoja. Left hand by Pantoja. Counter right by Figueiredo. Figueiredo gets a single-leg takedown. Figueiredo slips out of Pantoja’s guard. They stand. Body-kick by Pantoja. They exchange punching combos. Body kick by Figueiredo. Figueiredo lands a big punching combo. Pantoja lands a takedown, but Figueiredo immediately stands. As they stand Pantoja gets behind Figueiredo. Figueiredo kicks his way free. Pantoja counters a kick with a big right hand. The round ends with Pantoja landing two punches and a body kick.

Round 2: Figueiredo with a stiff leg-kick. Figueiredo attempts another leg-kick, but Pantoja counters with a right hand that sends Figueiredo to the ground, he stands quickly. They engage in a spirited striking exchange. Pantoja shoots and lands a takedown. Figueiredo quickly stands. They trade right hands. Figueiredo lands two standing elbows. They once again exchange heavy punches. Figueiredo drops Pantoja. The round ands with a standing Figueiredo landing punches to a grounded Pantoja.

Round 3: They start the round in the clinch at the cage. Figueiredo lands elbows, but a Pantoja knee breaks the clinch. Figueiredo lands a series of standing elbows. Pantoja goes down, Figueiredo lands shots from the top, but they stand. Figueiredo able to avoid a Pantoja punching combo. Leg-kick by Pantoja. Figueiredo lands a double-leg and assumes the mount. They stand and trade punching/elbow combos. Pantoja shoots for a takedown but it is stuffed by Figueiredo. Left jab combo by Figueiredo. The fight ends with a three punching combos by Pantoja.

Gavin Tucker (10-1) vs. Seung Woo Choi (7-2) – Men’s Featherweight 145 lbs

Round 1: They trade kicks that do not land. Tucker gets a single-leg takedown. As Choi scrambles Tucker gets his his back. Choi stands but Tucker is able to land another takedown. They stand at the cage but remain locked up. Choi sweeps into a takedown and sinks in a from headlock. Tucker rolls to a stand. They separate. Right jab from Choi lands. END

Round 2: They exchange high kicks. Tucker graba a single-leg and sweeps for a takedown. Choi gets up but with Tuker on his back. Choi breaks with an elbow. Leg-kick by Tucker. Choi spins but Tucker grabs him and lands a takedown. Tucker has Choi’s back as he stands. The ref stops time after Tucker lands a knee to a grounded Choi. Tucker has a point deducted. They resume. Tucker falls after a high kick, but quickly stands. Tucker punches to the cage and engages in a clinch. They break, the round ends.

Round 3: Kicks from Choi to start the round. Tucker grabs one of those legs but unable to get the takedown. Tucker pressures the clinch against the cage. They break. Big right from Tucker. Tucker lands a takedown but Choi stands, Choi lands a takedown of his own, they stand. Choi with another takedown. They stand but reamin locked at the fence. Tucker grinds Choi to a takedown. Tucker gets Choi’s back. Choi taps to a rear-naked choke.

Result: Gavin Tucker def.  Seung Woo Choi via submission  at 3:17 of round 3

Hakeem Dawodu (9-1-1) vs. Yoshinori Horie (8-1) – Men’s Featherweight 145 lbs.

Round 1: Wild right hand from Horie. Leg-kick by Dawodu. Jumping reverse sidekick by Dawodu does not land. High right hand by Horie. Another swinging right by Horie. Left hand by Horie drops Dawodu, but stands quickly. Horie counters a kick with a takedown. They stand. Dawodu with a counter right hand. END

Round 2: Dawodu comes out aggressive but eats a right hand. Right hand by Horie. They exchange right hands. RAIN HAS KNOCKED OUT MY CABLE FOR THE MOMENT.

Alexis Davis (19-9) vs. Viviane Araujo (7-1) – Women’s Flyweight 125 lbs.

Round 1: Left hans by Araujo. They clinch. A right hand by Davis drops Araujo. She stands. Davis lands another right hand. They exchange punching combos. Araujo drops Davis, but elects to kick a grounded Davis. The ref stands Davis. They are both landing with the hands. Davis throws a pair of kicks to the body and leg respectively. The round ends with Araujo attempting a flying-knee.

Round 2: Araujo starts the round swinging, but not landing. Araujo throwing with hooks. Davis lands a sloid punch combo. Araujo shoot and lands the takedown. Davis reverses and winds up in Araujo’s guard. Davis lands an elbow from the top. Davis frees her hands and lands punches from the top. The guard loostens slightly and Davis is able to land more elbows. END

Round  3: They hug to start. They trade right jabs. Araujo lands unanswered punches. Davis shoot but Araujo stuffs it. Davis spins, but eats a right in the process. Davis lands a right hand of her own. Davis shoots again, but Araujo briefly gains side-control before standing. The ref stands Davis. Araujo lands a punching combo. They clinch against the fence. The fight ends.

Result: Viviane Araujo def. Alexis Davis via unanimous decision  (29-28 3x)

Pay-per-view (ESPN+)

Marc-Andre Barriault (11-2) vs. Krzysztof Jotko (20-4) – Middleweight 185 lbs.

Round 1: Leg-kick by Barriault. Jotko initiates a clinch against the cage. They break. Barriault lands a right hand. Jotko with an uppercut. Barriault backs Jotko against the cage. They break, but repeat the process. Jotko lands a quick takedown, but Barriault immediately stands. Barriault shoots and gets the takedown but losses position. The round ends.

Round 2: Barriault pressures against the cage. Jotko fights out. Jotko with a standing-knee. They once again clinch at the fence. They break. Jotko pushes forward with knees, but Barriault wraps Jotko up. The crowd is getting restless. Barriault lands a solid right. Now, Barriault pushes the action against the cage. Jotko lands a knee to the body from the clinch. They break. Barriault finishes the round with an awkward takedown.

Round 3: Jotko starts the round with a takedown attempt, but Barriault stuffd it. Herb Dean calls for “work” they break. Barrialut goes for a high kick before a quick clinch situation. Barriault pushing the offense, but they again clinch before retreating back to the middle of the canvas. Barriaultl lands a jab and low kick. Quick clinch. Jotko lands a takedown and ends the fight landing an elbow from Barriault’s guard.

The scorecards are taking awhile.

Result: Krzysztof Jotko def. Marc-Andre Barriault via split-decision 

Analysis: This was a dreadful fight. The judges had their work cut out for them in this one. 

Olivier Aubin-Mercier (11-4) vs. Arman Tsarukyan (13-2) – Lightweight 155 lbs.

Round 1: Punching combo by Tsarukyan leads to takedown attempt, but OAM stuffs the attempt. Tsarukyan grabs a leg, but still unable to land the takedown. Right jab from OAM. Knee from OAM lands. Tsarukyan turns a kick attempt into a near takedown. Tsarukyan eventually gets the takedown from behind. The crowd does not have patience for this one. As the round nears it end, they break and Tsarukyan lands two punches.

Round 2: Tsarukyan starts the round throwing high kicks. Tsarukyan grabs a leg, but no takedown occurs. OAC lands a quick trip but they stand. Body kick by OAM. OAM drops Tsarukyan with a knee, Tsarukyan grabs Tsarukyan’s legs, but nothing doing. They stand. Tsarukyan shoots for a single-leg, but he is unable to get the takedown. Tsarukyan counters a kick with a hard right. Uppercut by Tsarukyan. They trade jabs. Three punch combo for Tsarukyan. The round ends.

Round 3: Big right for Tsarukyan. Tsarukyan shoots but is stuffed. Body kick  by Tsarukyan. OAM with a knee to the body. OAM goes for the takedown, but Tsarukyan reverses and lands up on top. Tsarukyan lands elbows and punches from the top. OAM lands elbows from his back. OAM attempts a triangle, but nothing gives. Tsarukyan lands more elbows from the top. Fight ends.

Result: Arman Tsarukyan def. Olivier Aubin-Mercier via unanimous decision (29-28 3x)

Geoff Neal (11-2) vs. Niko Price (13-2, 1 NC) – Welterweight 170 lbs.

Round 1: Neal attempts a punch combo, but Price largely avoids it. Neal lands a left, and then a slam for a takedown. Neal gets Price’s back but unable to grab a submission. They stand and break. Prive with a knee to the body. Neal rocks Price with a left hand. Neal attempts a takedown but Price resists. High kicks and a left by Price drops Neal. Price on top lands a punch right before they stand. Neal rushes into a clinch the a takedown. Neal gets Price’s back but unable to secure a rear choke, he transitions to mount, but the round ends

Round 2: Neal falls throwing a fury of punches, but he stands. Price answers with his own series of punches. Neal goes down, but Price ends up on his back. Neal goes for a choke from the top. Neal lands elbows and punches from the top. its over!

Result: Geoff Neal def. Niko Price via TKO at 2:39 of round 2

Cristiane Justino “Cyborg” (20-2, 1 NC) vs. Felicia Spencer (7-0) – Featherweight 145 lbs.

Round 1: Spencer aggressive, but Cyborg lands two punch and kick combos. Spencer shoot for a takedown, but Cyborg stuffs. Cyborg with another combo, but Spencer initiates the clinch.  Cyborg with a knee to break this clinch. Cyborg with a series of leg kicks. Cyborg has a big gash on her forehead. Cyborg with a big punch combo. Spencer counters with an elbow. Cyborg with a body punch. Spencer with an elbow, but Cyborg counters with a series of punches. Spencer locks in a clinch, Cyborg lands two knees to the body from the clinch. The round ends with Cyborg landing knees to the body from the clinch.

Round 2:  Leg-kick by Cyborg. Spencer catches another kick and backs Spencer to the cage. Spencer applies pressure at the fence. Spencer intentionally goes to the ground, Cyborg land punches from the top. Cyborg stands and receives a kick from a grounded spencer. Cyborg pounces, but unable to put Spencer away. They stand. Spencer with a left hand. Leg-kick by Cyborg. Left jab from Spencer. Leg-kick by Cyborg before landing a right hand. They trade right hands. The round ends.

Round 3:  They nearly clinch in the middle by Cyborg punches out. Big left by Cyborg. Spencer rushes by eats a knee. Left jabs by Cyborg. Right head-kick by Spencer. Spencer goes for a takedown, but Cyborg counters with knees. Big rights out if the clinch from Cyborg. Cyborg initiates a clinch. Leg-kick by Cyborg. Elbow by Spencer but Cyborg counters with a series of punches. Body punches from Cyborg. The fight ends with Spencer baking up from a series of strikes from Cyborg.

Result: Cris Cyborg def. Felicia Spencer via unanimous decision (30-27 3x)

Max Holloway (20-4) vs. Frankie Edgar (23-6-1) – Men’s Featherweight championship fight   145 lbs.

Round 1:  Jab by Holloway. Counter right by Edgar. A pair of jabs by Holloway. Uppercut by Holloway. Edgar looks for a takedown but abandons it. Right hook by Edgar. Right hand by Max Holloway. Edgar with an uppercut of his own. Leg-kick by Edgar. Uppercut by Holloway. They trade high kicks. Round ends.

Round 2: A pair jabs from Holloway to open the round. Outside right hook by Holloway. Left hand from Edgar. Holloway lands a right to an exposed Edgar. Edgar shoots but Holloway stuffs the shot. Big left from Holloway. Uppercut to the body from Holloway. Right hand from Holloway lands. Edgar counters a jab with a right hand. Leg-kick by Edgar. Holloway with a high-low punching combination. The round ends wit Holloway landing a spinning body kick.

Round 3: Edgar immediately goes for a single-leg, but to no avail. They trade combos. Edgar attempts  another takedown, but eats a knee. Edgar busy with the hands, but not landing much. Edgar once gain unable to secure a takedown. Holloway with a big knee. Holloway with a fury of punches to the cage. Edgar finally gets his takedown. Holloway stands.

Round 4: Edgar with a single-leg shot, but Holloway punches out. Edgar with a right hand. Edgar starting to land with his hands in this round. Edgar with another single-leg attempt, nothing comes of it. Body punches from Holloway. Body punch combo by Edgar. Edgar with a jab, Holloway with a jab. Holloway landing a pair of head shots. Edgar’s takedown attempt yields nothing.

Round 5: Body-kick from Edgar. Straight right jab from Holloway. Edgar goes for a single-leg but once again does not get a takedown. Left jabs by Holloway. Right hand by Edgar lands. Edgar with another shot, same result. Right hand from Holloway lands. Right hand from Holloway lands flush. Holloway landing jabs at-will. Right hook by Edgar lands. Edgar goes for a takedown from behind. Holloway spins out. Fight ends.

Result: Max Holloway def. Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision (50-45 2x , 48-47)
