Career Tailspin Award

The Career Tailspin Award goes to someone who saw a sharp decline in either in-cage or out-of-cage success during the calendar year. We had many fighters and personalities receive votes in this category, but there can only be one winner. This year’s winner is someone who has still shown some solid output in the cage but ultimately came up short against better fighters.

Winner: Joanna Jedrzejczyk

It seems a little harsh to give this award to Joanna Jedrzejczyk but I think to some voters, she was held in such high regard, that to see her go 1-2 in a year is considered a tailspin for her. Joanna lost a fairly one-sided decision in a rematch with Rose Namajunas in April but came back strong in the summer with a win over Tecia Torres. Earlier this month, Jedrzejczyk moved up to flyweight but former bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko proved to be too much for her. This year’s career tailspin award goes to Joanna Jedrzejczyk with hopes she can turn things around in 2019.

Honorable Mention

  • Roy Nelson
  • Holly Holm
  • The UFC flyweight division
  • Jon Jones
