Well New York, you have a main event!
Daniel Cormier, the UFC two-division champion will put his heavyweight championship on the line November 3 at Madison Square Garden against Derrick Lewis.
The news was first reported by ESPN’S Brett Okamoto.
Lewis, fresh off a devastating KO victory over Alexander Volkov last Saturday night at UFC 229 takes this heavyweight title fight on just 3 weeks notice. Daniel Cormier, who won the heavyweight title after knocking out Stipe Miocic in July comes up huge here for the UFC in taking this fight against that fan favorite Lewis, knowing full well after the success of UFC 229 that the 230 main event was shaping up to be a dud for the company’s New York City return. It’s an interesting stylistic matchup with some interesting personalities.
Should be fun in New York City on November 3rd.
