At UFC 219, on Dec. 30, Cynthia Calvillo takes on Carla Esparza. Who will win?

I’m going with Esparza by decision. A stoppage or submission is possible, but they’re both really tough so that’s unlikely. I think it’s close, maybe even a split decision, but we see Esparza come out just a bit more aggressive and pick up the win.

Carla Esparza holds a recent victory over current champ Rose Namajunas and was the underdog going into that fight. She wasn’t supposed to win that one, but she also couldn’t defend her belt in her next outing. Esparza is very talented and the UFC would love to get behind her. Calvillo could very well play the role of spoiler once again if she sticks to her wrestling. I believe that’s exactly what she will do and come out on top.

Another tough one, almost too close to call but I am going to go with the veteran Carla Esparza.

This is a very difficult fight to call. I would give the edge slightly to Cynthia Calvillo. Calvillo is a surging fighter with a great ground game. A win for her would certainly make the UFC power-brokers very happy. The winner of this fight might not be next for a title shot; however, this fight will surely serve as a solid resume builder.
