Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar to headline UFC 218

Max Holloway’s first featherweight title defense will be against Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC 218 in Detroit. The event will be held at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on December 2.

Grocke’s Point of View: On Monday’s episode of MMA Talk for Pro Wrestling Fans, I asked Shawn Ennis and Robert Valejos during the Fact or Fiction segment who would defend their title first between Stipe Miocic and Holloway. Well, we got our answer a day later. This should be a good fight. Edgar is as tough as they come and looked great in his last two wins against Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez. While I expect Holloway to win, I don’t think it will be easy.

DJ says Cejudo vs. Pettis winner deserves next title shot

At a media event promoting UFC 216, Demetrious Johnson commented on who he thinks should get the next title shot should he get past Ray Borg on Saturday night.

On Sergio Pettis:

“With Pettis, he’s on a three-fight win streak. So if he wins this fight, he’s the No. 1 contender in the flyweight division, he’s got four fights in a row I mean, I can’t think of another athlete … who won as many in a row. We’ll see what happens.”

On Henry Cejudo:

“I think Henry looked real good in his last fight. I feel bad for Wilson, man. He walked right into the cross, he didn’t do what a southpaw should do, he walked right into the cross. I feel bad for the guy. With Sergio Pettis, I think Sergio Pettis has more of a style that will give Cejudo more of a well-rounded look for me to fight.”

Grocke’s Point of View: This is a no-brainer. There isn’t anyone else that would make sense for DJ to fight. Personally I’d love to see Cejudo get the next shot considering how good he looked against Wilson Reis his last time out.

Dariush wants to make Dunham pay for call-out

Beneil Dariush spoke to MMA Junkie at UFC 216’s media day and talked about being called out by Evan Dunham.

“When somebody asks for me my first thought is, ‘Oh, he thinks I’m weak. Why else would you call somebody out if you don’t think you can beat them? That’s the most motivating part. This guy thinks he can beat me. Let’s get after it. Let’s do this. It’s the only thing on my mind.”
