Jon Jones’s suspension has been issued through next June, but that hasn’t led to Dana White reaching out to Jones to make future plans.
“I haven’t talked to Jon,” he told TMZ. “Jon’s got a lot of things he’s got to handle and clear up before Jon and I talk.”
White says Jones needs to help himself, and he’s not the person to do it for him. “He’s got a lit of cards stacked against him right now,” he said. “It’s all self-inflicted. He needs to figure some stuff out and get his personal life in order before he even thinks about what’s going on over here.”
Keller’s Analysis: The reporter asked Dana whether Jones is going to be past his prime by the time he returns, and Dana just pivoted to saying he has to deal with his personal life before thinking about his potential in MMA. It’s really sad what course Jones’s career has taken, and just imagine the money and sense of accomplishment he’d have felt by now if he stayed clean and fought big main events in place of all of this off-time? I remember White saying during a press conference when Jones first won the title that he’ll be great if he chooses to hang with the right people and avoids all the temptations that come with fame and rishes, especially shady people who would be competing for his time and trying to steer his lifestyle. At the time it felt ominous, and it’s turned out White probably knew what he saying and had a reason to say it.
