Even though he is the current UFC Bantamweight Champion, Dominick Cruz has his sights set on the next chapter of his life.
In an interview with Champions.co, when asked if Cruz will make a move to the announce booth after Joe Rogan’s recently signed one-year contract with the UFC runs out, Cruz raised some eyebrows with his response. “Who says it takes a year? If I’m as good at the job as you say I am, then I might be able to be in there earlier than that.”
Cruz has been a member of many FOX panels for the past couple of years while he recovered from his many knee injuries, and, at 31 years of age, it is clear that he knows that his time as a professional fighter might be coming to a close. Cruz’s next fight has not yet been scheduled, although he has recently expressed interest in a super fight with either Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor.
Analysis: I always commend fighters for having an eye on their future, and it is admirable for Cruz to admit that he thinks about his life after fighting while he is still a UFC Champion. He is great in the booth and seems to be one of the more knowledgeable fighters on the roster, and while it will be near impossible to replace Joe Rogan, he is as good a choice as any to take Rogan’s place once he moves on.
