Two standout performances from Eddie Wineland and Felice Herrig on the middle portion of Saturday’s UFC on Fox 20 event earned them each $50,000 bonuses.
Wineland’s “Performance of the Night” came in the final bout on the Fox televised prelims, as he stopped Frankie Saenz in the third round for his first win since January of 2014. The longtime veteran dropped Saenz a minute and a half into the final frame with a bullet of a right hand, and though Saenz got to his feet he was never given space. Wineland picked him apart for the next 15 seconds, landing strike after strike against the cage that finally brought a stop to the bout.
Herrig had what was easily the best performance of her career, blitzing Kailin Curran early on the ground. Herrig landed some early strikes, got the fight to the ground, took Curran’s back, and finally worked for the choke. Curran attempted to fight the choke off, but Herrig held on and got the tap less than two minutes into the round.
In addition to those two bonuses, a close and exciting fight between Jim Alers and Jason Knight, which Knight edged by split decision, took home “Fight of the Night” honors from the UFC Fight Pass prelims.
