In a major upset in Bellator 159’s main event, Joe Taimanglo forced previously unbeaten Darrion Caldwell to submit to a guillotine choke in the opening seconds of the third round.
Taimanglo was well on his way to a decision loss when he caught Caldwell at the outset of their final round. Caldwell found himself unable to escape, and he was forced to tap before going unconscious. It was ridiculously quick, with Taimanglo latching onto the hold after stuffing a shot from Caldwell, and it was one of the more shocking finishes you could expect to see.
The shocking finish was the highlight of a night which also saw Melvin Guillard snap a three fight losing streak with a first round finish over David Rickels. The TKO win was Guillard’s first overall victory since 2014, where he stopped Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante in the WSOF. Following the win, Guillard said he’s headed up to welterweight, and he called out Paul Daley for his first fight at 170 lbs.
In other main card action, Daniel Weichel edged past Emmanuel Sanchez by split decision, while Emily Ducote finished Bruna Vargas with a submission shortly into the second round.
