The final two preliminary card fights on the UFC 200 card saw two younger prospects take another step up the ladder at the expense of veteran competition.
Julianna Pena and Kelvin Gastelum each earned convincing decisions over Cat Zingano and Johny Hendricks, respectively, to close out the Fox Sports 1 prelim broadcast, each moving close to their goal of title fights in their divisions.
Pena had a bit of a come from behind win after dropping the first round to Zingano, but she bested the former title challenger down the stretch with a superior grappling attack of her own. It wasn’t the most exciting fight, but it was impressive work from the young TUF winner to keep her in the mix as a potential Women’s Bantamweight Title challenger
As for Gastelum, another TUF winner, he was simply the superior striker to the former UFC Welterweight Champ for 15 minutes. He out-worked and out-landed Hendricks, scoring more often and avoiding much of Hendricks’ offense to take the decision.
Those fights led into the pay-per-view broadcast on Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and each are going to get consideration for significant fights in their next outings as well.
