Tonight’s UFC 200 broadcast will see some direct promotion of the WWE, according to UFC President Dana White. Speaking with media on Friday, White said getting Brock Lesnar on the UFC 200 card brought a little quid pro quo between the two companies.
“The fact that they did this, I wanted to reciprocate, so yes,” White said commented when asked about WWE promotion on the broadcast (transcribed by BloodyElbow.com). “And they’re doing it. If you look today, Brock’s weigh-in will be on all social media for WWE. This deal couldn’t have worked out any better.
“It was Brock’s team, me, Vince and Triple H [who worked out getting Lesnar on UFC 200]. Brock Lesnar just weighed-in on stage and he’s fighting here tomorrow night, so it went great. Listen, Vince and I have had our ups and downs and Vince is a tough character to deal with. He’s an animal. It’s one of the things that I respect about him. I think he’s loosened up a bit on the UFC.”
Penick’s Analysis: The WWE was slow to give real promotion to Lesnar’s appearance this weekend, but they stepped things up a bit this week and thus it only makes sense the UFC would do the same. With Lesnar scheduled for the WWE’s Summerslam event next month, it adds another level for WWE fans to his fight with Mark Hunt, because a bad loss could potentially hurt him for that event. A win makes things even bigger, and with this card likely to do quite well on pay-per-view it’s a big platform on which the WWE can be showcased.
