GSP says it would be “easy” to fight at lightweight if he wanted: “It’s not really about size. It’s about skills.”

“If I wanted to, I could fight at lightweight as well. Easy. Easy. I’m not a big welterweight. I walk around 187 [pounds]. I’m 186, 187 when I wake up in the morning, and I could easily make it [with] a diet, because a lot of lightweights are bigger than me. Welterweight, I don’t even talk about it because most of them are bigger than me, of course, and middleweight, they’re much bigger than me. But it’s not really about size. It’s about skills.”

-Georges St-Pierre talks to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about his UFC return and why he could fight at multiple weight classes.

Penick’s Analysis: St-Pierre at lightweight would be potentially more interesting than him at middleweight, although the proposed fight with Michael Bisping is quite intriguing in its own right. There are a lot of fighters St-Pierre’s never come across, especially from an always stacked and competitive lightweight field, so it’s all going to be dependent on what he wants to do in his return. He’s still likely at his best as a welterweight, so that’s where we’re probably going to see him next, unless of course the Bisping fight comes together.
