UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold caught Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza’s dominant win over Vitor Belfort on Saturday night at UFC 198, but the Champ didn’t come away from the event particularly impressed with his one time foe.
In a post to Twitter, Rockhold downplayed what Souza did to Belfort on Saturday’s card.
Jacare’s performance was as expected. Nothing learned, nothing gained.

Rockhold faces Chris Weidman next month at UFC 199, defending the title he won in December over Weidman in December. Rockhold and Souza met for the Strikeforce Middleweight Title in September of 2011, with Rockhold taking that title from Souza in a close decision victory.
Penick’s Analysis: Considering their respective results against Belfort, it’s a bit unnecessary to downplay it to this degree. Of course, most would likely take Rockhold in a rematch over Belfort, so that previous loss doesn’t have to play too much into it. Still, Souza looked great against Belfort, and expected or no has probably done enough to get his shot at Rockhold should Rockhold retain against Weidman on June 4.
