“It will happen because it’s a fight that I really want. I respect Fedor a lot, he’s an example in our world. I would give him this rematch, for sure… I have everything planned in my mind already. I have a vision. Nothing official, nothing from the UFC, only from my head: Fedor and I in a rematch at Chechnya. The president of Chechnya, [Ramzan] Kadyrov named me an ambassador in the country and he loves MMA, and it would be cool to take the UFC to Chechnya. Fedor and I, the main event of UFC Chechnya.”
-Fabricio Werdum talks to Guilherme Cruz at MMAFighting.com with his plan for a rematch with Fedor Emelianenko in the UFC.
Penick’s Analysis: If that’s a spot the UFC is looking to break into, there wouldn’t be a better option than Werdum-Fedor there. It’s a fight the UFC can easily sell, and given the heavyweight field typically provides a handful of passable names rather than clear no. 1 contenders it’s a fight they can get away with booking. Now, it’s probably further down the line with Alistair Overeem’s win in the Netherlands, because I think that’s next, but if the UFC wants to make something happen with Emelianenko, this would be the way to do it.
