A rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Raphael Assuncao is now official for UFC 200, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Dillashaw lost the UFC Bantamweight Championship to Dominick Cruz in January by a razor-thin split decision. With the UFC giving Urijah Faber his own rematch with Cruz next at UFC 199 Dillashaw was in need of an opponent to get back in the win column, and a fight with the last man to beat him seemed the most sensible matchup.
Assuncao edged past Dillashaw in a three round decision in October of 2013, but he’s fought just twice since then, and his last appearance in the Octagon came in October of 2014. The Brazilian contender has won seven straight fights, and adding a second win over Dillashaw could very well earn him his own shot at the UFC Bantamweight Title.
This bout is expected to be the featured prelim on the Fox Sports 1 portion of the card, leading into the pay-per-view event from the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by the Light Heavyweight Championship rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.
