Alistair Overeem is likely to get the next shot at the UFC Heavyweight Championship after his TKO win over Andrei Arlovski on Sunday, but it’s not likely to come at UFC 205 in New York.

Overeem called for that November date for his shot, saying he wanted to capture the belt in New York, then head back to The Netherlands for a 2017 title defense. However, according to a UFC official via a report from MMAJunkie.com, the UFC don’t plan on putting that Heavyweight Title on the Madison Square Garden card in November.

The 35-year-old vet has won four straight fights, and now awaits the winner of next weekend’s Fabricio Werdum vs. Stefan Struve bout.

Penick’s Analysis: Given the timing, the UFC is going to be looking at September or October for the next Heavyweight Title fight, and they’ve got different ideas on what they’d like to put in New York City. Overeem challenging Werdum is not going to be high on that list. Still, it’s a good fight, and a valid championship bout at heavyweight, so expect it to come in the fall.
