Derrick Lewis vs. Roy Nelson added to UFC Fight Night 90 in Las Vegas on July 7

A heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Roy Nelson is heading to UFC Fight Pass on July 7, with the UFC announcing Friday that they’ll face off at UFC Fight Night 90 in Las Vegas.

Lewis is riding a three-fight winning streak into the event, stopping each of those opponents by strikes in that run. He’s 6-2 overall in the UFC to date, and he’s very much a “live by the sword, die by the sword” competitor. With extremely heavy hands yet a hittable chin, Lewis is at his best when he can beat his opponents to the punch in the opening round. Failing that, he’s suffered a couple of stoppage losses, and that is likely to be in play against Nelson.

The 39-year-old Nelson enters the Octagon for the 17th time in his career, and hopes to move back above .500 in that run. The Ultimate Fighter season ten winner picked up a win over Jared Rosholt in February to halt a three fight losing streak, but he’s won just two of his last seven fights.

UFC Fight Night 90 hits the MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 7 as the first of three straight events during the UFC’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas. It airs live on UFC Fight Pass and will be headlined by the UFC Lightweight Championship bout between Rafael dos Anjos and Eddie Alvarez.
