Jones to Cormier: Let’s pretend you’re the real Light Heavyweight Champion, and I’ll let you hold my belt

Daniel Cormier’s been taking shots at Jon Jones regarding his failed drug test for cocaine prior to their January 2015 fight, and Jones decided to respond in typical Jones-troll fashion.

In a quick video posted to Instagram, Jones snidely told Cormier he was “clever” with his latest drug joke, and then took aim at Cormier’s status as Champion.

“Hey, I got a clever idea, how about this weekend we pretend that you’re the real Light Heavyweight Champion, and I’ll let you hold my belt.”

The two will come face to face during a media event on Friday prior to the UFC 196 weigh-ins, hyping their bout and the rest of the UFC’s April through June schedule into UFC 200.

Penick’s Analysis: It’s certainly a troll-job, but it doesn’t really make it an inaccurate jab. Cormier got beat by Jones clearly just over a year ago. Jones didn’t actually lose the belt. No matter what happened with the belt getting stripped, the reality is that Jones was better than Cormier when they fought, and Cormier hasn’t beaten the man he needs to beat yet to stake his claim as the true champion.
