Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris remains in the hospital this week after a serious medical scare following last Friday’s Bellator 149, and he’ll be there into next week according to an update from his camp.
In a post made to Harris’ Facebook page, his team said doctors want to keep him for observation through early next week after he went into renal failure and reportedly critical condition after his loss to Kimbo Slice in Texas.
“We had hoped to bring Dada’s fans and supporters news that he would be released today after completing a full week in the Hospital, however, his Doctors have required that he stay through the weekend and into early next week for continued monitoring and observation,” the statement read. “If his progress continues as it has he should be released early next week. We appreciate the outpour of support from fans all around the country wishing Dada a speedy recovery, your kind words and prayers are heard.
“We would also like to thank the good people at Bellator, the EMT’s, doctors and nurses at the Hospital, his friends and everyone who has worked their best for Dada to get better. Thank you.”
Penick’s Analysis: All involved, from Harris himself, to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and Bellator MMA themselves, are extremely lucky this wasn’t even worse. Thankfully he’s trending in the right direction, but clearly it was quite serious with how long this hospital stay has been extended.
