There’s still no official announcement on Jon Jones’ return fight against Daniel Cormier, but UFC President Dana White confirmed this week that it’s expected for April.
That’s been the rumored location for the fight, originally in conjunction with the UFC’s desire to run at Madison Square Garden on April 23, but with that event off, White said he didn’t have all the details just yet.
“It’s probably going to happen in April,” White said in an interview with FoxSports.com. “I don’t have the date or the venue but April is looking like the month.”
Jones is returning to the cage for the first time since beating Cormier at UFC 182 last January. He’ll attempt to regain the belt that was stripped from him by the UFC last spring after a hit and run accident in Albuquerque. Cormier captured that title in a win over Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.
Penick’s Analysis: This was expected, and the date is likely to remain for April 23. Whether it happens in Las Vegas, California, or in some other location entirely remains to be seen, but that’s where it’s seemed this fight was going to wind up.
