With Fabricio Werdum pulling out of UFC 196 due to injury, the UFC is in need of something significant to keep it as a viable and acceptable pay-per-view event. To that end, several fighters have thrown their name in the mix thus far, but one in particular could be the most intriguing: Jon Jones.

The returning former-UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was asked about stepping in against Stipe Miocic for the Feb. 6 event, and said it’s something he’d be up for under the right circumstances.

The UFC hasn’t made any official announcements regarding the event, and though this particular fight isn’t going to come to pass, it’s an intriguing prospect.

Penick’s Analysis: Jones stepping up against Werdum on short notice could have been intriguing, though Werdum wouldn’t have been wise to take that at less than 100% either. There’s no real clear saving grace for this event right now, and though Jones’ return could be it, they’re not going to rush him back in for anything less than a legitimate title fight.
