Sage Northcutt has a new opponent for next week’s UFC on Fox 18 event. The UFC announced on Friday that Andrew Holbrook is out of the event due to injury, and Northcutt will now fight Bryan Barberena in a welterweight matchup.
Barberena steps up on short notice, taking him out of a fight next month against Jonavin Webb in Pittsburgh at UFC Fight Night 82. The 10-3 lightweight has split his two UFC appearances, beating Joe Ellenberger in his debut before dropping a decision to Chad Laprise last April.
The 19-year-old Northcutt has garnered full promotional backing from the UFC in a short amount of time, and this fight will take place on the network television main card next Saturday night. The undefeated fighter has stopped two straight opponents in the UFC, stopping Francisco Trevino in the first round before submitting Cody Pfister in the second in his most recent outing.
UFC on Fox 18 takes place from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on January 30, headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Ryan Bader.
