After shying away from an initial report two months ago that Fedor Emelianenko would be fighting 28-year-old Jaideep Singh on the Rizin Fighting Federation’s New Year’s Eve event, the organization announced on Thursday that Singh is indeed the scheduled opponent.

The fight was originally reported in October, then subsequently denied, and the organization continued to keep the identity of Emelianenko’s opponent under wraps despite the event fast approaching. The fight is now set for next week’s event, which will air in the morning on Spike in the U.S. on Dec. 31.

Singh is a longtime kickboxer but a relative novice in MMA, with just two professional MMA bouts to his credit. Emelianenko returns to MMA for the first time since June of 2012, coming out of retirement to fight under former Pride boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara.

The Dec. 31 event is one of two from the brand new organization next week in Japan, as they’re running on Dec. 29 as well. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will take part in a tournament taking place on next week’s events.
