A staph infection has taken Dennis Bermudez out of UFC Fight Night 81 in Boston, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.

The Ultimate Fighter season 14 runner-up was slated to face Maximo Blanco on the Jan. 17 card, but the infection hitting his shin has forced him to withdraw from the event.

Bermudez had been rising quickly up the featherweight ranks up until a year ago, when he had a seven fight winning streak snapped at the hands of Ricardo Lamas. A follow up TKO loss to Jeremy Stephens in July has him in need of a win, but that effort will be delayed.

There’s no replacement set for Blanco as of yet, though there’s more than a month to find a him a new opponent. The Jan. 17 card airs live on Fox Sports 1 with a headlining bout between T.J. Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz for the UFC Bantamweight Championship.
