The Nevada Athletic Commission has confirmed that negotiations are on-going with Nick Diaz’s legal team regarding the five year suspension and $165,000 fine they levied against him in September over a disputed failed drug test for marijuana.
In a statement released via MMAFighting.com, NAC chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed that discussions are taking place, though clarified that Diaz’s case would not be a part of their agenda for the October meeting on Thursday.
“As a reminder to the general public, the Nick Diaz disciplinary matter will not be on the agenda at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s on Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Las Vegas,” Aguilar said. “Settlement discussions between the NSAC and Mr. Diaz and his counsel are on-going.”
Penick’s Analysis: With these talks happening prior to an official written decision on disciplinary action, it’s almost a guarantee that Diaz will not be suspended the entirety of the five years initially slated at the hearing last month. Just how much gets taken off that term remains to be seen, but it’s a very positive sign in his favor at the moment that this is happening.
