Brock Lesnar has failed a second drug test in connection to his UFC 200 return against Mark Hunt, with the UFC announcing on Tuesday that an in-competition sample collected the night of the event has come back positive for the same substance as his out-of-competition failure from June 28.

Statement via the UFC:

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Brock Lesnar that his in-competition sample collection from July 9, 2016, at UFC 200, has tested positive for the same substance as his previously announced out-of-competition collection on June 28, 2016.

“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The Nevada State Athletic Commission also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed at UFC 200 in Las Vegas.

“Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.

Mark Hunt has already demanded Lesnar’s fight purse from UFC 200 or his release from the organization due to Lesnar’s initial failed drug test.

Penick’s Analysis: We still don’t know what the substance was, and given the failed tests are close together and it’s in his system on both occasions it’s from something he was taking regularly. We’ll get more information eventually, but to have multiple drug test failures in a row is going to make it very difficult for Lesnar to convincingly argue anything that reduces his suspension. If it’s something for which he could have a “medical necessity” argument, something for which a therapeutic use exemption could have been obtained, he’ll get hit for not disclosing that information. Either way, it’s highly unlikely we see him fight again.
