“I don’t know. I broke it actually a couple times before this fight. I have no idea what to do. I gave it time, it kept breaking. I don’t know if surgery is gonna be the best route. I really just have to take time. I’d probably at least look into surgery, see if that can make it stronger, because just time off didn’t do s***. I don’t know what it was. I was just trying to throw combinations and tuck my head. Something landed and I felt the waterfall start. The familiar feeling. My nose needs surgery. I’m gonna need some time.”
-Rory MacDonald, after suffering yet another broken nose at UFC Fight Night 89 on Saturday, discusses his continued issues with that particular injury during the post-fight press conference (transcribed by MMAFighting.com)
Penick’s Analysis: If it’s getting broke that easily surgery may be the only option he’s got to fix things. It’s got to affect him mentally, because that’s significant pain and can make one shy away from getting hit. Given his style of fighting and what he does when he’s most successful, that’s not good for him.
Heres a thought.. Maybe Rory could try not blocking punches with his face.. As a fighter your job is to hit the other guy and make him bleed while not using your face to stop the other guys punches just saying..
