An injury to Claudio Silva has given Siyar Bahadurzada a new opponent for next month’s UFC 201 event, with the UFC announcing this week that Jorge Masvidal is stepping into that bout.
Bahadurzada snapped a two fight losing streak in his most recent appearance earlier this year, submitting Brandon Thatch at UFC 196. That impressive return performance came after more than two years out of action.
Masvidal takes his fourth fight in the UFC’s welterweight division, though he’s in need of a win after consecutive losses to Benson Henderson and Lorenz Larkin. The longtime vet lost both of those by split decision, and he’s going to have a tough challenge in Bahadurzada to halt that slide.
UFC 201 hits Atlanta, Ga. on July 30, headlined by the UFC Welterweight Title fight between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
