“I think that neither the UFC nor McGregor are 100 percent wrong. I do think that once you sign a contract, which includes promoting an event, then that’s what you have to do. I understand, I’ve gone through this in the past many times. As a fighter, we think our job is to go in there and fight… I know as a fighter how hard it is to leave your country in between camps to go on promotional tours. I’ve done all that and I’ve disagreed with it a few times, but I understand both of their sides.”

Penick’s Analysis: The issue with promotion is whether or not it’s “reasonable” as set forth in their contracts, as that’s an open-to-interpretation piece of wording. McGregor thought it was unreasonable for him to fly to Las Vegas and interrupt his training before he was ready to come in, the UFC disagreed, and here we are. There’s still likely plenty of behind the scenes wrangling that we simply won’t know about between the two sides, as they’ve both stuck to the media obligations narrative, but they’ll eventually come together and get McGregor back in the cage.
