Saturday’s UFC on Fox 19 event drew the night’s top rating in the key demographic of adults 18-49, but it was the second lowest overnight viewership overall for a second quarter Fox event for the UFC.
According to a break down from Sports TV Ratings, the UFC on Fox 19 broadcast from Tampa drew 2.13 million viewers in the overnight rating, down from last year’s UFC on Fox 15 number with 2.43 million viewers, but up from 2014’s UFC on Fox 11 event, which came in with 1.986 million viewers overnight.
Saturday’s event was racked with injuries and late changes, leaving a weaker main event in the Rashad Evans vs. Glover Teixeira bout than the planned lightweight contender bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. Teixeira knocked out Evans in the first round, while Nurmagomedov beat up late replacement Darrell Horcher earlier on the card.
Additionally, the main card saw Rose Namajunas defeat Tecia Torres and Cub Swanson beat Hacran Dias.
Penick’s Analysis: It’s not a great number, but it’s not surprising, either. It wasn’t a must-watch card, and had so many changes very close to the event itself that it wouldn’t be surprising at all if a good chunk of fans opted not to tune in for the event. It’s not a disastrous number or anything, but it’s certainly not what it could have been.
