Six fighters from last month’s UFC Fight Night 81 event received six month medical suspensions from the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission, though the commission wouldn’t release any information regarding the nature of maladies suffered on the card in Boston.
Among the lengthiest layoffs, presumably pending doctor’s clearance, were once-again Bantamweight Champ Dominick Cruz and oft-injured former UFC Lightweight Champ Anthony Pettis. The list of suspensions from the event is below (via MMAJunkie.com):
- Dominick Cruz: 180 days
- Anthony Pettis: 180 days
- Travis Browne: 180 days
- Matt Mitrione: 180 days
- Ross Pearson: 30 days
- Ben Saunders: 180 days
- Tim Boetsch: 45 days
- Maximo Blanco: 30 days
- Sean O’Connell: 30 days
- Kyle Bochniak: 180 days
- Joey Gomez: 45 days
- Elvis Mutapcic: 30 days
Penick’s Analysis: Clearly the UFC will be hoping to have Pettis and Cruz back in action much sooner than six months, and Pettis at least already seemed intent on getting back into the cage as quickly as possible. It’s also entirely possible that several of those receiving these terms have already been cleared, and without knowing exactly what requires clearance, it’s hard to know just how long they’ll wind up being out.
