“I’m ready to fight tomorrow. Maybe they just don’t want me to fight until then, but I’m perfectly healthy. I’m ready to go… Nothing’s set in stone so we’ll see how it unfolds. I’d like to fight sooner than later, but I’ve never in my life said ‘I want to fight this person at this time.’ I don’t do that. I don’t like to wait eight months but I’m not going to sit here and demand something different. If they give me something sooner, great; if not, then great.”
-Holly Holm talks to FoxSports.com about the UFC expecting a rematch between her and Ronda Rousey at UFC 200 and why she’s still up for fighting much sooner.
Penick’s Analysis: With Holm still talking up the idea of fighting as soon as possible, and Lorenzo Fertitta saying this week they’re still going to speak with her team to see what works for them, it’s theoretically possible that she defends that title before Rousey comes back. It’s not the greatest idea, because risking that big money rematch just to get another fight in isn’t necessarily the right move. With that said, she’s a competitor who would like to compete, and if there’s an option available that works on that end, as it could with Miesha Tate, the UFC might decide it’s a risk worth taking in order to make their champion happy.
